C2Logix Provides Critical Route Optimization Software in Nationwide H1N1 Flu Response - May 2009

(Fairfax, VA - May 8, 2009) C2Logix announced today that as part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s ongoing response effort to the outbreak of H1N1 virus or swine flu, the company has taken steps to enhance the technology provided to federal, state and local government emergency managers through the CDC’s Strategic National Stockpile.

The Stockpile is providing medical supplies and flu anti-viral medicines to thwart the spread of the virus. C2Logix provides route optimization software for planning the distribution of medicines in a fast and efficient manner. C2Logix’s technology is made available through the CDC to all state and local government entities managing the Stockpile’s distribution. Prior to the CDC’s release of 25% of the stockpile’s anti-viral medicines, the CDC engaged C2Logix to double its capacity of vehicle route optimization servers. C2Logix immediately stepped in and also provided additional assistance to help emergency managers prepare and implement the distribution plans. "The CDC and local governments did it. They successfully activated the entire system and got the medicines out to where they would be needed," exclaimed Kevin Callen, C2Logix Chief Technology Officer. "We never hope to see the Stockpile get activated, but everyone in the C2Logix team volunteered to be on-call 24/7 for assistance. It felt great to help in the response. It was very gratifying to see State’s turn to the software to help them route the distribution of medicines in a clinch."

The CDC has been providing the SNS TourSolver Portal, developed by C2Logix, since in November 2007. The Portal is a central route simulation and optimization decision-making tool with over 400 users, featuring a web-based version of the powerful, yet easy-to-use TourSolver™ route optimization software. The customized tool enables planners to quickly generate optimized routes to distribute supplies from central storage facilities to multiple local points of distribution in communities. For the swine flu response, emergency managers were able to identify the number of trucks that they required, how long it would take to complete the deliveries, and the actual travel path and route that each driver would take.

In the CDC’s 2008 Contractor Performance Report reviewing C2Logix work in the first year of the contract, C2Logix received the highest rating for each performance category, which includes quality of product or service; value; timeliness of performance; and business relations. The report also states that “the state and local stakeholders for CDC have found this service to be highly useful”; “the vendor has always been highly responsive to any requests, and has taken the initiative on issues that were not considered by the CDC”; and “…also provided assistance above and beyond the scope of the contract in support of the response efforts to the hurricane activity in Louisiana.”
